About Us
Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Columbus Park West Nursery School is a progressive, child centered preschool program serving 25 children between the ages of 3-5 . Our educational philosophy focuses on the importance of:
• guiding young children in developing the skills to become effective members of a community
• building self esteem in children and helping them maintain their own individuality and
• developing a life long love of learning
In our one room, mixed-age schoolhouse, our highly qualified faculty offer students a rich variety of materials and experiences that encourage self-expression and support children's growing ability to make choices. In a relaxed environment, children are encouraged to use their natural curiosity as a catalyst for learning , socializing and developing a sense of self. Academic, social and life skills are addressed through short and long term “projects” that weave academic learning into activities that are of interest to the children, such as indoor gardening, cooking, art and dramatic play.
CPWN is a member of the Independent School Admission Association of Greater New York
(ISAAGNY) and is one of ten schools on the Upper West Side to be fully accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC accreditation means that the school has met the highest educational, teacher qualification and safety standards in the field of Early Childhood Education.
